Coborn’s, the parent of Cash Wise Foods, has announced plans to purchase Mandan’s Bill’s Liquor and all four locations of Captain Jack’s Liquor Land as its current owners plan to retire.
All five locations will operate under the Captain Jack’s nameplate with no major operational changes expected after the acquisition. Coborn’s already owns and operates a liquor store adjacent to the company’s Bismarck Cash Wise store, which will also not be affected by the acquisition.
The move re-solidifies Coborn’s heightened interest in this region, with several recent store openings across western North Dakota. The company’s Bismarck grocery store opened in June 1982.
Bill’s Liquor has been owned and operated by brothers Tom and John Miller since 1982. They opened the first Captain Jack’s location in 1998, which has since expanded to include three Bismarck locations and one location in Mandan. The company only recently opened its northwest Bismarck location.
It is interesting to note that three of Captain Jack’s locations neighbor direct competitors of Cash Wise Foods: Central Market and two Dan’s Supermarkets.
