Via press release:
At 12:36 p.m. on Wednesday May 21, 2014 the Bismarck Fire Department responded to a report of smoke and possible flames in Fiesta Villa, located at 411 E Main Ave.
The first arriving officer gave an initial report of nothing visible from the exterior of the building, evacuation of the restaurant was underway and Command at the scene was established. After making entry it was reported there was light smoke with no odor in an area above the kitchen. Five fire trucks responded with fifteen personnel. The source of the problem was found to be a ruptured filter canister on the heating/cooling system. When the canister ruptured, the pressurized oil in the system vaporized into light smoke. There was no fire and there were no injuries.
The fire department blocked the eastbound lane of traffic on Main Ave. to position apparatus and provide a safe working area for personnel. Once it was confirmed there was no fire involved, the street was opened again.
The damage to the system is estimated at $1000.00.
The fire department was assisted at the incident by the Bismarck Police Department.
