Scheels has announced plans to greatly expand its Kirkwood Mall location, by a whopping 40,000 square feet. This will nearly double their presence at Kirkwood and make it the largest single-floor Scheels store.
The expansion will consume its former space within the mall, located adjacent to its current anchor spot, along with some of the retailers across from its former space, presumably those that once occupied such stores as Wilson’s Leather and KB Toys. Years ago, Scheels had already expanded into the space that once held McDonalds.
Scheels first came to Bismarck with a location at Arrowhead Plaza in 1973. It moved to Kirkwood, establishing itself as junior anchor, in 1984, becoming the chain’s first “All Sports” store. Scheels moved into the former Target space in 2007, shortly after Target had relocated within Kirkwood.
