The Bismarck City Commission has approved St. Alexius’s request to block parts of 11th Street & Thayer Avenue for a future expansion of the long-time hospital. As part of the agreement, St. Alexius will have to fork out cash to widen part of 12th Street to accommodate higher traffic volume.
The street closures were part of a long-standing agreement between the hospital and the city dating back decades.
This is not the first time St. Alexius closed off existing streets for expansion, previously consuming portions of Thayer Avenue and 10th Street long ago.
Saint Alexius was established in 1885, becoming the first hospital in Dakota Territory.
