In an unanimous decision, United Tribes Technical College has selected Dr. Leander “Russ” McDonald as its new president, replacing departing long-time president David Gipp.
An enrolled citizen of the Spirit Lake Tribe, McDonald is a former tribal chairman. He’s expected to start his duties next week.
United Tribes was founded in 1969 by an intertribal organization called the United Tribes of North Dakota Development Corporation. It is a nonprofit college serving over 800 students and governed by the five tribes of North Dakota: Three Affiliated Tribes, the Spirit Lake Tribe, the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians.
This will be UTTC’s first new president in 37 years.
