Basin Electric is in the midst of a major remodeling and expansion effort to their sprawling Bismarck campus that, when completed, is expected to serve the utility cooperative’s operations for the next fifty years.
The current phase, which has already commenced, includes the addition of 4,000 square feet and the remodel of 4,700 square feet. Another, even larger, expansion is also being planned, which will add 90,000 square feet to the west side of their headquarters. The larger expansion will consist of four floors that run the entire length of the current building. A glass atrium will then connected the two buildings.
Once fully approved and completed, the expanded building will be large enough to host all of their 550 local employees under the same roof. Currently, the company’s local employees are spread out over four buildings. The organization is one of the largest employers in Bismarck-Mandan.
The projects will also modernize the working environment for its employees, including the addition of nursing rooms for new mothers.
Basin’s headquarters, situated along I-94 facing 19th Street, was constructed in 1974. The project is expected to be completed by 2017.
