Spa D’Athena halts renovation plans, to close indefinitely amidst AG investigation

"Public reaction and recent events" are cited in the change in plans, according to its website.

After initially announcing plans to temporarily close for renovation, Spa D’Athena says on its website that it “will be closing with no set date to reopen at this time.”

10.24.2017 Spa D’ Athena’s plans for renovation and construction have been put on hold and as of October 27th, 2017 will be closing with no set date to reopen at this time. As recently as five days ago, on October 20, Spa D’Athena posted to its Facebook Page that “The plan at Spa D’ Athena is still on track,” referencing its initial announcement to renovate and re-open under a different business concept.

News of the abrupt change seems related, at least in part, to an investigation by the North Dakota Attorney General who, on its website, confirmed the preliminary investigation: “The consumer protection division has initiated an investigation relating to Spa D’Athena in Bismarck.”

The AG’s statement further states, “Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem also is highly concerned about attempts by Spa D’Athena to limit the claims process, including any implication that consumers may be waiving certain rights they have if they respond to or send an email to the company.”

According to KFYR-TV, Spa D’Athena has been in business for 18 years.
