North Dakota has voted in line with, what has proven to be, the national trend of favoring Republicans this midterm election, replacing two long-held Democratic positions with Republican representatives.
For the Senate, Governor John Hoeven, who recently won his third gubernatorial term with 74.4%, easily defeated challenger Tracy Potter by a large margin. The position is being vacated by long-time representative Byron Dorgan. Hoeven will be the first Republican to represent North Dakota in the Senate in 24 years.
For the House, Rick Berg has narrowly defeated long-standing incumbent Earl Pomeroy. Berg will be the first Republican to represent North Dakota in the House in 30 years.
Incumbent Republicans, including Al Jaeger, Wayne Stenehjem, Kevin Cramer, and Cory Fong, have also faired extremely well in this election.
