Jerry Plants was a pioneer Bismarck resident. He was the night watchman for the Northern Pacific Railroad and operated a railroad office at “the landing” along the river near the railroad bridge, where he also resided.
Much of his responsibility included supervising the railroad bridge and local shipping activity.
Plants relocated to Los Angeles in about 1913. He was “about 60” upon his death in 1923.
The Shaw & Cathcart store was originally located near Jerry Plants’ private residence.
