Gateway to Science Center is a hands-on education center targeted at children.
History
Gateway to Science Center was established on November 25, 1994 in a 2,000-square-foot retail space at the center of Gateway Mall. Since 2005, the center has occupied 3,200 square feet of the Frances Leach High Prairie Arts & Science Complex (formerly Masonic Center) at 1810 Schafer Street. Ground was broken in 2019 for an independent facility consisting of 13,700 square feet, which is expected to open in 2021.
Gateway to Science was organized by Bismarck Parks and Recreation, Bismarck Recreation Council, Gateway Mall – who donated the space, a 14-member committee, and other volunteers. Frank Koch, a chemistry professor at Bismarck State College, conceived the project and spent two years gathering a committee to launch the center.
