City of Bismarck to Hold Special City Election Nov. 4 to Fill Vacant Seat

BISMARCK, N.D. – The City of Bismarck will hold a special city election to fill the vacant Board of City Commissioners seat.

On Tuesday, November 4, 2014, a special election will be held in the City of Bismarck for the purpose of electing the following city official:

One (1) Member of the Board of City Commissioners to serve the unexpired term of the vacant Board of City Commissioners seat.

The election will be held in conjunction with the State General Election at the polling places and times established by Burleigh County.

Any person who is a qualified elector and a resident of the City of Bismarck is qualified to be a member of the Board of City Commissioners.  Candidates are required to file a Petition/Certificate of Nomination (SFN 2704) with at least 300 signatures, and a Statement of Interests (SFN 10172).  Forms are available on the ND Secretary of State’s web site, www.nd.gov/sos/electvote/elections/forms or http://www.bismarcknd.gov/index.aspx?NID=625, or by contacting the City Administrator’s Office at 701-355-1300.   

Candidates must file the required forms with the Bismarck City Administrator at 221 North 5th Street no later than 4:00 p.m., September 2, 2014.  Election administrators suggest collecting up to 350 signatures and turning in petitions at least one day before the deadline since some signatures may be eliminated for not being valid city residents. Only complete addresses are accepted.  Post office boxes are not considered a valid address.

Notice: A nominating petition for a special election may not be circulated or signed more than thirty days before the time when a petition for a special election must be filed.  Circulation of petitions may begin August 2, 2014.
