The Grant Marsh Bridge, also informally known as the Interstate 94 Bridge, was the second vehicular bridge in the region to span the Missouri River. The bridge opened in 1965 to serve the newly constructed Interstate 94.
The opening of the Grant Marsh Bridge significantly altered traffic patterns through the area. Prior the completion of the interstate, all through traffic went through the heart of downtown Bismarck to cross the Liberty Memorial Bridge. With the opening of I-94, all major traffic shifted to the north, and thus marked the beginning of the end for major business in downtown Bismarck, and for businesses near the Liberty Memorial Bridge, including the nationally renowned Holiday Inn.
