O.V. Anderson, his son – Alton, and Paul G. Brewer opened Anderson Ace Hardware in 1938 at 116 North Fifth Street. On December 2, 1955, Anderson Ace opened at a new location at 407 North Fourth Street, where it remained until its August 1996 closure. It was at that time that Kirkwood Hardware Hank became affiliated with Ace.
The building it occupied in 1955 was built on the foundation of what was once a movie theater. A house occupied the site before the theater.
