Dakota Theater opened October 1951 on the northeast corner of 4th and Rosser. It was a single-screen theater until incorporating a second screen in 1975, when it became known as Dakota Twin Theater. Owner Midcontinent Theaters closed it in 1994 upon expanding its Gateway Mall theater to eight screens.
It has since housed various businesses, including Simply Salads at its end. The building was razed in 2011 for the three-story American Bank Center office building that now stands on the site; original construction cost of about $4 million.
