Knowles Jewelry

Knowles Jewelry was a long-time jeweler that originated as Knowles and Hanley Jewelers in 1907. It was the successor to J.B. Cook and Company located in the same building. Hanley’s interest remained until about 1917 or 1918. It resided in the same building at 119 N 4th Street during its entire existence, where the J.B. Cook store was previously housed.

Knowles announced its Bismarck closure in 2022 after its long-time owner, Brian Peterson, passed away, having owned the store for 48 years. It was reported that Peterson was planning to retire and close the business regardless after its 115th anniversary.

Minot Location

A Minot Knowles Jewelry opened in 1984. It remains open as of 2022 under separate ownership.
