Marshall H. Jewell

Marshall Henry Jewell (1857-1911) was a long-time owner, publisher, and editor of The Bismarck Tribune, and first petitioned for the local telephone franchise in 1901. Jewell previously began publishing a local directory in 1879 that cataloged population, business locations and operating hours, and general information about the region. Jewell also initiated the first effort to establish a public library in 1893, along with C.M. Dahl.

Arriving in Bismarck in 1878, Jewell was shop manager for The Bismarck Tribune when he acquired the periodical from its founder, Clement A. Lounsberry, in 1884.
