Midway Lanes is the largest bowling center in the Bismarck-Mandan area, with fifty two lanes. Opened in 1961 with 20 lanes along Mandan’s strip, Midway Lanes has seen several expansions and renovations over the years, most recently after the closing of Capitol Lanes in Bismarck, which at the time was the largest bowling center in North Dakota. Jim Mellon took over Midway Lanes in early 1967, owning and running it until retiring in 2023.
Midway Lanes received national attention, when in 1989 it partnered with Capitol Lanes to host the Women’s International Bowling Congress tournament, which drew in 44,000 bowlers over the course of the tournament.
