Palace Theatre was an early Mandan movie theater that opened in December 1916 featuring the film The Pawn of Fate. It was located at 106 Third Avenue NW.
Harry L Hartman and Rex H. Sanders partnered to open the theater, originally to be known as “Hartman House” or “Hartman Photo Play” before becoming Palace Theatre.
The Palace of Sweets was a confectionery store opened alongside the theater in the southwest corner of the building. Franke and John Wetzstein, along with several partners, acquired Palace Theatre in 1929.
Jerry Brekke acquired Palace Theatre in 1974, along with Mandan Theater. While Brekke continued operating Mandan Theater (as Showboat Cinema), Palace Theatre closed about this time and the building was used as a warehouse in its final years before being sold in 1976 to First Northwestern National Bank for parking. It was razed in March 1978.
