Rausch Furniture was a long-time furniture store in Bismarck.
John Engel and A.P. (Tony) Rausch cofounded Engel-Rausch Furniture on July 22 on the northwest corner of Broadway Avenue and Third Street next to the Paramount Theater (today’s U.S. Bank Building site). Engel already owned a furniture store in Dickinson at the time. Rausch was living in Dickinson too, as manager of Security Credit. At first, the store also sold appliances and flooring. In fact, it marketed itself as a linoleum specialist. In July 1939, Rausch acquired full interest with his wife Wilhelmina (Minnie), and eventually passed ownership to their sons Robert and Thomas.
Rausch Furniture remained downtown until relocating to 2223 E Rosser Avenue in 1973, renovating the former 1955-built Eddy’s Bakery building for about $100,000. The new building contained more than three times more space.
It closed in the early 2000s and the former building has been occupied by Crystal River Warship Center since 2004.
