Trail West was a Custer-themed outdoor theater production that is considered the predecessor to today’s Medora Musical. It held its first season in 1958 at the Custer Memorial Amphitheater in Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park.
The show evolved into The Custer Drama. Sources vary on how long the outdoor drama ran, ending in either 1966 or 1968. It seems that financial considerations prevented it from holding a 1967 season, but it’s unclear if one was held thereafter.
