Wachter Middle School

Built in 1967, Wachter Middle School has seen several additions over the years, including two in the first two years of operation. Wachter was the first school in North Dakota to fully transition from the junior high format to the middle school format in 1991. Wachter takes its name from the Wachter Family, who denoted 10 acres of land to the city for its development.

This was the second school named for the Wachter Family, the first, built in 1918, was named for Gottlieb Charles Wachter, who had recently retired from school board.

2017-2018 Expansion

Voters overwhelmingly authorized a $57.5 million bond measure to finance an expansions to all three middle schools, including Wachter, as well as adding a 650-seat auditorium to Bismarck High School and additional classrooms at Century High School. The middle school projects are expected to complete by fall 2018.
