Bismarck Quiet Zone Project Public Information Open House to be held Feb. 13

Citizens are invited to an open house from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, February 13, to discuss the Bismarck Quiet Zone project requirements and details of the Quiet Zone implementation process. The meeting will be held at the City/County Building, 221 N. 5th Street, in the Tom Baker Room (lower level of the City/County Bldg.).  Brief presentations will begin at 5:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.  A quiet zone is a section of railroad line where locomotive horns are not routinely sounded. The City of Bismarck is in the process of creating a railroad quiet zone along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway corridor in Bismarck from 3rd to 12th streets.

Participants will have an opportunity to view displays, ask questions and discuss the proposals with representatives of the City and SRF Consulting Group, Inc.

Purpose of Meeting

The Quiet Zone Open House will provide background information on quiet zone requirements and details of the quiet zone implementation process. In addition, City and Consultant staff will be available to describe the proposed improvements to each of the crossings to be included in the Quiet Zone. Staff will also explain the implementation schedule and discuss issues of crossing safety, cost, and liability.

Meeting Format and Outline

5:15 – Welcome open house attendees. City and SRF staffs will provide handouts, informational boards, and will be available to answer questions.

5:30 – SRF will provide a Bismarck Quiet Zone informational presentation to attendees.

5:45 – Question and answer session.

6:00 – SRF and City staff will be available for one-on-one discussion with attendees.

6:30 – Close open house.
